  7. Minutes of the Shared Whois Project BOF (SWIP)

  9. The goals of the SWIP BOF were to:
  10.

  12.    o Present the idea and project that Merit had conceived of to
  13.      converge the network data stored by GSI-NIC, RIPE, and Merit.
  14.  
  15.    o Get general agreement on the idea and the method being used.
  16.  
  17.    o Define requirements for a shared whois database.
  18.  
  19.    o Get consensus on the need for a distributed whois database of
  20.      networks and a consensus that the platform be X.500.
  21.

  23. We achieved most of these goals.  There was a very clear consensus from
  24. the attendees that a distributed whois database of networks should be
  25. implemented, should be done in X.500, and that it should be done
  26. ``right''.  It was further decided that Merit should proceed with their
  27. X.500 project to converge the network data currently available from
  28. RIPE, GSI-NIC, and Merit, and for them to put into place a procedure to
  29. keep the data converged until the distributed whois database is in place
  30. and working.  There is an action item to combine the two X.500
  31. architectural models presented in the BOF pertaining to a distributed
  32. model for network data.
